There is no doubt that technology will play an increasing role in every aspect of our lives - the way we play, shop, work and communicate today has changed significantly over the last 20 years since the arrival of the internet.
Whilst some long for the good 'ol days and spend a lot of energy in the past, there is no doubt that technology is not only here to stay but will increasingly affect us all. So GET ON BOARD! Embrace change! Look for the positives and possibilities, not just the pitfalls and problems! Be a part of the solution... all pretty cliche!
I have some questions. In this era of exponential technology growth, schools are slower to adopt change. I am not sure why. So question number 1:
Secondly, I am interested in what we could do to shift the current state of education significantly - in less than 10 years! I am concerned that when I retire, not much will have changed - we will still have standardised tests that stress the heck out of everyone and are a poor measure of the effectiveness of a school, still have teachers who lecture to bored students in rows of desks who CAN'T WAIT for the weekend. So question 2:
Test scores are easy to collect but again are a really poor way to measure if your stated goals of producing independent learners, critical thinkers and socially responsible your people. So how to we metricise intangibles? Question 3:
I am sure there are really smart people out there who could give really good answers to these (or already have!). I will get back to reading so I can find them!
